He never expected the woman would turn out to be the governor's daughter...and his next assignment. The governor blackmails Jackson to secretly watch over Michaela and protect her from a stalker, or kiss his dream job at the FBI good-bye. Swearing to keep things strictly professional, Jackson moves in with Michaela. Too bad his heart can't keep the same promise. But when the stalker's attacks quickly escalate beyond mere photographs to bodily harm, Jackson must race to save Michaela's life. And he'll have to figure out how to keep her once she discovers his lie.

Not much of a plot, mostly the author takes you from one sexual interlude to another, with little time spent moving the story forward. I stuck with the book because I really liked the characters and their comradory trash talk, but I found myself skimming over the graphically descriptive sex scenes. Fie on authors who manage to hot sex scenes repetitively boring! Character development beyond the MCs is practically, none existent. The author, despite some minor foreshadowing, wastes opportunities to get you interested in the supporting characters who have their own book later in the series. There are also very limited explanations of the story's villains. Her father, is sadistic bastard, but there's no decent explanation for his actions, so he comes off as cardboard bad guy she can pin the cause of all her problems on. The was a 99¢ book deal from Book Bub. While won't classify the book as total disappointment, because I did enjoy some facets of it, I cannot recommend it wholeheartedly. You've been warned.Product details

A Night of Southern Comfort The Boys Are Back in Town Book 1 edition by Robin Covington Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
A Night Of Southern Comfort by Robin Covington is a fantastic read. Ms Covington has delivered a well-written book loaded with amazing, lovable characters. Michaela and Jackson's story is loaded with action, suspense, humor and sizzle. I loved reading this fun book and look forward to reading more from Robin Covington in the future. A Night Of Southern Comfort is book 1 of The Boys Are Back In Town Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
Newer author for me, but I was impressed. Good job with the characters, and a good job in making you feel as if you are there in the scene. The plot was decent as well. I will be reading more of Robin's work.
First, I want to say "Thank you" to NetGalley for the copy of "Get Lucky" (no this is not a review of "Get Lucky"), but, because of it I was introduced to some wonderful new authors, to me at least. One of them is Robin Covington; I started looking for more books by her and found "A Night of Southern Comfort". Oh. My. Gosh. Such a wonderful book, it is just outstanding! A phenomenal who done it, love story from beginning to end. When I picked this book, I did not realize that is was part of a series. I am glad it is because it gives me more to read from Ms. Covington.
Great job Robin, and thank you; I really look forward to reading more of your books.
PS I loved to "J&G" part at the end.
Thank you for reading my review. Get this book you will definitely love it as much as I did. If you want to know about my last reference, you will have to read the book.
Yeah, no. The premise was good, but the follow through was way too hollow for me. Meet, hook up, reunite, sex, fun and ... suddenly they're in love? Wait, when did they talk or find anything interesting about each other beyond mediocre sex? I actually stopped and went back making sure I hadn't skipped some chapters or some how missed out on actual get to know you or bonding or even the lame duck writer moments of the hero/heroine TELLING you that they find so and so amazing because of x, y, z. Nope, not even that. Just out of the blue, omg I'm in love.
yeah ... no. Tack on a totally contrived 'put the h in distress so H can save her' at the end and nail-in-coffin, the book died from 4 stars bordering on 3 to a solid 2, maybe 3 stars because I've actually read worse - and this was at least well written when it was standing on its own two feet.
I wanted to like it, but .. eh. My advise? Skip it.
I liked this book, but I didn't love it. IMO- there was a lot more raw sex scenes than there was plot line. There were secondary characters that I wish the author would have chosen to feature a bit more, or she could've even added to the plot line a bit more, rather than throwing in one sex scene after another. Don't get me wrong I love a good graphic sex scene now and then, but there's also a thing called....over kill.
The story itself wasn't all bad, in fact there are a lot of things I really, really liked, too. I loved the fact that the female character wasn't some weak, weepy female. She was, in fact, a very successful, and very liked pediatrician. She was even strong enough to break away from her high powered and very sadistic father. And when she found her self in a very precarious situation, she didn't sit around waiting for someone to come to her rescue. She took action all on her own.
Jack is a damaged war veteran and former FBI agent trying to find a place in the world, after a less than stellar exit from the bureau. Now he's torn between the woman he feels the need to protect, and working for a man he's come to despise. If I found a weak character in this story, IMO- Jack would be it. He constantly let himself be led around by his little brain, rather than the one between his ears. He dropped the ball more than once, and it almost cost Michaela her life. BUT....he redeemed himself in my eyes in the end.
Overall this is a really good book, just be forewarned about all the repetitive graphic sex scenes.
Southern Comfort is a book that I didn’t want to put down. It redeemed my like of romantic suspense. Yes, the plot was a little predictable especially if this is the type of book you read. Still the characters were so well developed that you wanted to get to know them. This was a story where I felt I was part of it and not just watching what was happening.
I realize the Series is the Boys are Back in Town. That is what makes it such a good read. You got to see the male character development and change. Jack was struggling with everything more than Kayla. You just knew when Jack walked in a room even before Kayla did.
The suspense part of the story was good but not really needed because the characters were interesting passionate and real.
This is the first time reading this author and I will be getting the next book in the series.
